Finishing the year on a high, I decided to take space at a new shop Local Labels Noosa, which meant the holiday season began with an intense burst of work to ‘stock’ the shop before I went away. Taking my family to visit our interstate relatives is a Christmas ritual now and it gets funnier as the kids get older and less used to being surrounding by city things and shops and escalators and lots and lots of buildings and people.
One of the things I love to do when I get a minute, is to walk and for the moment I am (yet again) obsessed by eucalyptus leaves, when I began dyeing at the beginning of 2012 the ‘red’ leaf prints happened effortlessly. I had no idea that I should be cataloguing and noting exactly where that leaf came from, the whole idea of windfall gathering was so seductive. Now I am on a mission to recreate the initial eco prints that I stumbled upon, its that attachment to results that gets me, as soon as I stop that and […]

It’s so much fun giving permission to yourself to play, as an adult I find that my creativity is often hampered by the desire to deliver a perfect ‘result’. Initially when I started dyeing I was frugal with all my decisions, […]
‘Life’ is the leaves which shape and nourish a plant, but ‘art’ is the flower which embodies its meaning. (Charles Rennie Mackintosh).

The first collection for my online shop is called ‘And then the Rain’ I like to give my work a story, a context of where it has originated and what was happening in the workroom at the time. For this collection, I was working purely on aesthetics as I master my dyeing techniques, playing with fabrics and combinations of […]
The tanks are low and the vines are hanging from the trees its good weather to dry fibre… but I am obsessed with dyeing at the moment, and for good reason, I am going to be selling my scarves in a beautiful little shop in Nest at the Old Bakery in Eumundi. My dreams are slowly becoming reality, as I am able to spend more time in the workshop making.
After 18months of learning, I have such expectations of what my finished dyeing is going to look like, but have to continually let go and accept the results that appear. Such […]
A very quick trip to Melbourne, partly to source some new fabrics, trims and ideas and just as a break from the intensity of motherhood. After my last trip I am starting small this time 36 hours away and I will build from there in the next year. If you remember last time I went away to the Selling Yarns conference in Canberra I was away a week I had a great time… but at home I spent the next 6 months getting the kids back to functionality. Sounds dramatic, but one of my children is so very sensitive […]
It seems that although my child free hours are growing, my dyeing gets going in the last hour before school pick up. As this is all new and exciting, I have been cramming in as much learning as possible. To refresh everyones memories, or bring you up to date, last year I began my dyeing journey with big ideas and a not much knowledge. So I started learning, and researching and experimenting. Using Eucalyptus and Red Onion Skins initially.
A collection of art and objects created to tell the story of being a mum, a wife, a sister, a daughter and a friend and my struggle to actually make something, during the chaos that mostly surrounds me, and also the journey of finding the courage to explore this creativity that I have always had, but never given value to.
The exact date in 2014 and details will be announced later so keep your eyes on my Facebook page or Subscribe to my BLOG to see whats exciting and new….
I have given some time and space to the thoughts of letting go of the expectation that I will produce oodles of work. Patience, and accepting what is on the day seems to be the easiest way forward. Very hard for a thousand ideas a minute Aries… to accept that I cannot do everything and be everything, in my head is the constant dialogue, am I being a defeatist or a realist?
Well who knows and if I stop long enough, and come into the present, stop worrying about what I think other people see in me. The quiet inner sanctum […]
The highlight of the week was sharing my love of weaving, fibre and form with a group of wonderful people at a workshop I ran at the Rosebed Street Gallery in Eudlo, I loved it. The week leading up to friday was hard work, I had both kids off school sick for the whole week, husband away working and I added 21 hours of cleaning and dressing sores, not to mention being screamed at, hit and abused whilst trying to get them to take their anti biotics…. which as my son has severe food intolerance’s, means he cant have the […]
