In between Medium: Mixed media textiles (2015) Dimensions: 65 x 117 x 4 cm Inbetween Artist Statement: We are in-between, between the coast and the hinterland, between Noosa and Eumundi, our lives are spent travelling in-between places. The beauty of the surrounding scenery, the eucalyptus trees that are forever present, their shadows and grace. The leaves slowly moving in the wind, sometimes falling, leaving traces of colour on the ground as they decay. I have used the pigment and the actual leaves from one of our local trees to dye this work. The shadows in-between remind me of the [...]

Exhibition ‘Notions of an Ordinary Yarn’ OFFICIALLY OPENED: Friday 23rd October at 6pm  DATES: 23rd October to 6th December 2015 Noosa Regional Gallery, Pelican Street, Tewantin, Qld, Australia The story of the everyday fascinates me, I find beauty and rhythm in my surroundings and ways to use this to record and tell the stories. As art has from the beginning of time, told the stories before me. I use the places and people as inspiration, raising the status and acknowledging the ordinary lives of the everyday. I choose to use craft based practices, I find this helps make direct links between [...]

Unresolved - (Installation) photo by Tony Webdale Hemp Canvas & Silk Cotton Hemp Swatches Eco Dyed, Wooden Chair 1700mm x 1300mm This work is from the body of work Lovingly Interrupted exhibited in 2014 at Gallery 159 Brisbane. The installation Unresolved is the final piece made for a mentored exhibition in 2014. I had visions of perfection, the most spectacular work accomplished so far. After months of preparation, I unrolled the dyed work to great disappointment. Nothing like I had hoped. And so it became an installation of unresolved ideas. The process for this work included collecting leaves, documenting place [...]

Eco Stitching and Doodling

2014-05-02T22:53:35+00:00

If I were a painter I would have books full of sketches… but as a dyer I have drawers full of fabric… While learning my craft I make endlessly and here is a beautiful way I can use some of my learning to share… It helps me to be freer with my experiments and playing. I call them Eco Doodles. The process used is predominantly ‘eco dyeing’ which is a method developed by India Flint, and this is combined with traditional Japanese Shibori folding and bundling techniques. This is overstitched, I have a passion for keeping womens work and hand [...]

Place and Time

2017-02-27T15:02:29+00:00

The recording of place and time by collecting windfall from the surrounding plants and using them to make images on fabric helps me make sense of where I belong, and of the stories that are part of that. The images that I record are not an obvious reproduction of the visual aspects that you see, they record the essence of what has happened there, both in the now and the history of the place. What has been introduced to the garden, unwanted weeds and the original habitat, it documents what was in abundance and what was falling off, the season, [...]
